(d.687)

Cuthbert was an Anglo-Saxon Monk and Bishop in the Kingdom of Northumbria. After having seen as vision of angels carrying the body of St Aiden to heaven he went to the monastery of Old Melrose to become a monk in 651, soon afterwards, however, he became a soldier or many years.

In 664, after having returned to the monastery, Cutherbert was made prior during which time he administered to the people's spiritual needs, carried out missionary journeys, preached and performed miracles.

In 684, Cuthbert was elected to be Bishop of Lindisfarne and duly consecrated in 685 by the Archbishop of York (Theodore).
