St Kentigern (also commonly known as St Mungo) was an apostle of Strathclyde and the patron saint and founder of the city of Glasgow. Here he spend many years converting Christians in the area.
Following a strong anti-christian movement, Kentigern retired to Wales via Cumbria. Whilst in Wales, Kentigern stayed with St David, and founded Llanelwy Cathedral (known now as St Asaph). He also undertook a pilgramige to Rome during this time.
Feast - 13th January
There are many churches in Cumbria dedicated to St Kentigern - among them , Aspatria and Crosthwaite (Keswick). There are also many churches dedicated to St Mungo - among them Dearham and Bromfield.
