St Wilfred

Born in Northumbria, Wilfred entered into a religious life suring his teenage years, studying at Lindisfarne, Canterbury, Gaul and Rome, after which returning to become Abbot of the newly founded Ripon monastery. In 668, Wilfred was restored as Bishop of Northumbria, during his 9 years there he built monasteries and churches and was improving the liturgy.

After many years in exile, Wilfred was restored to Ripon and Hexham his Northumbrian monasteries in 702.
