The group of church sitters was formed to enable the church to be kept open every Saturday between the hours of 10:00am and 4:00pm. There are three groups who each donate two hours of their time on Saturdays to welcome visitors to the church.
There are leaflets at the back of the church giving information needed for a brief guided tour of the church, in addition to this sitters will be able to answer any questions. Visitors are requested to sign the Visitors Register, thus we are able to know which part of the world they are from. Since the fire we have had thousands of visitors from all over the world. This information is currently being transferred to a map of the world. Most visitors seem to have some form of connection with St Michael's, such as relatives who were Baptised, Married or Buried in the church.
Since the Workington Roll of Honour was installed in the church, we have had many visitors to view this.
The Church Sitters are able to enjoy a warm comfortable atmosphere in the church and there are usually two or three in each group, so we can enjoy the company, catch up on the gossip and have a cuppa.
We look forward to your visit to ST Michaels- the opening times are shown above. You can be assured of a friendly face and warm welcome.
