The Sanctuary Light fitting was found in the sanctuary area, following the 1994 fire, in a badly encrusted with building debris and lead splatter. Two of the arms were slightly bent the chain was a mess. Churchwarden, Eric Martin (pictured left with the completely restored Sanctuary Light), picked off as much debris as he could and soaked the fitting in Battery Acid and finally Vinegar. He then washed, scrubbed and cleaned it repeatedly with water and finally used brass polish to finish it off.

Eric has been working on the Sanctuary Light on and off since the fire (due to work committments) but a few weeks lately leading up to Easter.
At last the Sanctuary Light is back where it belongs in a brilliant location in the Lady Chapel.

The same work has been carried out on a Candle Snuffer, which was found in a similar condition following the fire.

The poem in the file below was written by Audrey Studholme, a member of the St Michael's congregation following 1994 fire.
